Our hand washing process for fine rugs, used exclusively by EcoClean, completely eliminates the problems assosiated with having rugs cleaned at large automated rug cleaning plants. Our process is more labor intensive , slightly more expensive, but much more thorough and gentle. We don't clean more rugs than the big rug plants, we just clean them better.

Our Unique Green Rug Cleaning Process:

  1. Our professional staff picks up your rug from your home or office, carefully moving all furniture necessary to remove your rug.

  2. Upon arrival at our rug spa, your rug is checked in, measured and carefully inspected for any possible repairs, stains, deodorizing or any other special handling. The dyes of your rug are tested for colorfastness.
  3. Once the pre-wash inspection is complete and the rug wash proceeds, the first step is dusting of the rug. Some rugs can hold up to one pound of dirt per square foot before it will "look" dirty. Washing / wet cleaning a rug with pounds of fine grit and dirt in the foundation creates mud...so dusting is an vital first step to the rug wash process.

    4. This important rug dusting step is completely skipped by many so called rug cleaners.
  4. Your rug is hand washed on both sides using a mild, specially formulated “green” detergent and cool natural water. *Some rugs require hand dry cleaning.

  5. The rugs fringes are washed separately by hand.

  6. All moisture is carefully extracted from your rug.

  7. All of our rugs are laid out flat to dry. Hanging textiles up when wet can lead to too much strain on the foundation of the rugs. Air movers are used to help facilitate drying, without the use of high heat (so there is no worry of shrinkage). Upon a first wash, it is typical for a rug to shrink slightly (less than an inch) - just as cotton and wool clothing does in even a cold water hand wash. And as with throwing wool or cotton in a high heat dryer, you know this shrinks natural fibers...this is why we dry our rugs the way we do.

  8. Your clean rug is inspected and further spot cleaning is performed as necessary.

  9. Your rug is brushed to evenly raise the pile.

  10. Fringe tassels are washed an additional time after the rug bath. The tassels are then dried. The rug is given a final grooming, and then rolled and ready to go home.

  11. Your rug is re-inspected and vacuumed.

  12. After your rug is checked out of the rug spa, we deliver your rug to your home or office, where it is re-laid to your requirements, carefully moving and replacing your furniture as necessary.
